One of neoliberalism's most cunning successes has been its capacity to convince an entire generation that the route to a happier life comes via the individualistic hunt for new personal identity, rather than a collectivist fight for structural economic reform.

To think we can fix inflation if workers restrict wage growth and accept a permanent reduction in living standards is an economic fairytale

The thinktank has released evidence of what it calls a “profit price spiral”, arguing big business earnings account for 69% of the inflation that is above the reserve bank’s target range of 2-3%. The Reserve Bank of Australia and its governor, Philip Lowe, have been warning of a “wage-price spiral”, when price rises cause wages to increase which in turn causes further price rises, which was an issue of the 1970s stagflation period. However Jim Stanford, from the Australia Institute’s Centre for Future Work, has examined post-pandemic price rises and company profits and compared them to wage increases. Reporter: @pyjamapolitics

"Dating is a wackness for everyone, but dating while autistic is a special kind of hell, because I take things literally. Before i realised i was autistic, people would always be like why are you so naive. But it's not naive. You said you were this thing and so I believe it. And when the actions don't match the words my brain has a little error 404. but my dating life has improved since i stopped worrying about what people said and focused on how it made me feel. i take it really seriously. and i have to say it's hard. but my life is really peaceful so i have this baseline of peace. and when a person enters my life and all of a sudden shit feels jiggy jaggy i can easily identify that with them being the new thing in my life they are generating the lack of peace. maybe they are just triggering your trauma. Yes absolutely. but i know my wants and needs and i know my traumas. and if i am not able to talk about them with someone and there is resolution then they still have to go. what that looks like is if i start dating someone and all of a sudden my anxiety levels rise, i am enjoying everything in my life a little bit less, i have one good conversation with them about it. after that, if i still feel the same way, i quickly and quietly leave. [...] literally casper on people. and i laugh about it but it's not easy. it is however necessary. because i've also had to accept that sometimes i make myself a victim by not ejecting people from my life when they demonstrate repeatedly that they are not equipped to love me well. now i look at it like okay they are not equipped to love me well because of their own shit, probably from childhood. this is an issue of a little child that still lives within them and i can have empathy for that, from a vast distance and never at my own expense."
